Bound Success Stories: Ticketing

A Reader That Works: How Cape Girardeau Fixed Ticketing with Bound

"My ticketing guy has been doing this for 30-some years. I can't tell you how many times he's told me, 'I don't know why we weren't doing this 10 years ago.'"

Hardware upgrade.

Cape Girardeau introduced digital ticketing after COVID, but the platform never held up where it mattered most. At the gate, the problems were constant — trouble connecting, trouble staying connected, trouble scanning tickets. For District Athletic Director Tyson Moyers, those failures came at exactly the wrong moment: the point of sale, with a line of fans waiting.

The missing piece was hardware. The previous platform had no reliable card reader, which meant fans who hadn't bought online in advance had no fast way to pay. When Cape Girardeau moved to Bound and added card readers, that gap closed. Anyone who isn't comfortable buying a ticket ahead of time can now pay by card at the gate, quickly and without hassle. The clearest verdict came from the person with the most experience.

Tyson's ticketing manager — a veteran of more than three decades — became the readers' strongest advocate.

The economics reinforced the operational case. Under the previous vendor, layered fees were a persistent source of complaints from fans. Bound's structure is a single flat per-ticket fee with nothing added on top, which Cape Girardeau found easier to absorb into pricing — making tickets cheaper for fans while the district's separate registration platform, which had been costing close to $10,000 annually, was eliminated entirely.

"If I can reduce the fee for the fans and reduce our cost and bring it into one platform, that just makes sense. That was our main reason for going with Bound."

Tyson is now working to extend the readers further. The booster club currently runs concessions on a third party platform; his goal this year is to move them onto Bound card readers with a store set up at the concession window, so payments, tickets, and everything else run through the same system.

Cape Girardeau also uses Bound for registration across grades 1–12, scheduling, transportation, workers, camps, and facilities — replacing a stack of platforms that had grown back to the same sprawl Tyson inherited in 2019.
